Kalenderblatt März 2024/Calendar Page March 2024

Hier also das Kalenderblatt für März 2024.  Here is the calendar page for March 2024. 😊 During a walk along the Kaiserstuhl, close to the ruins of the Limburg on the Rhine, we had the opportunity to listen to a song that was sung with great enthusiasm. 😊

Warten auf Touristen - Waiting for Tourists

Stillstand.
When it gets hot and humid down in the Rhine Valley in summer, people are drawn up to the lakes and ponds in the cooler Black Forest. The lakes are also a popular holiday destination for tourists. Up there, the season starts in spring. At least it was like that ... BEFORE Corona. Everything is different this year. Until recently, hotels and restaurants were closed due to the risk of an infection. Standstill.

Popular lakes here in the southern Black Forest are the Titisee (photo above), the Schluchsee (the largest lake) and also a small pond, the Windgfällweiher. (➤Here, ➤here and ➤here have been already reports about the lakes on my blog)

Am Titisee:
At the Titisee:

A possibly confusing sign. The German sentence is understandable: this only applies in winter (the right translation: Don't step on the ice surface of the lake!). But the English and French translations on the sign can lead to confusion, especially in summer ... How could someone walk over the water? 😕😂

In the distance is the Feldberg massif, whose glacier formed the three lakes in the last ice age.

I can't remember that I've seen the center of the Titisee village so empty before!

From Freiburg in the Rhine Valley, the train (Höllentalbahn) runs every half an hour up to the Titisee...

...und stündlich weiter zum Schluchsee hoch.
...and every hour further on up to the Schluchsee.

Danke :-)))

    Herzliche Grüße von Heidi-Trollspecht

  5. Oh thank you for showing us the beautiful Lake District in the Black Forest. I would love to visit there! I’m sorry for the businesses that are not getting the expected tourists (and sorry for the people who don’t get to enjoy their vacation there). But how beautiful it is without the crowds (and how lucky you are to be able to go there at this time).

  6. Beautiful views of the lake and its surroundings:) Sad that not many dare to enjoy it now. Had no idea Germany is behind in the reversal of the the virus time. Smiled when I read your "verwirrendes" - that word sounds exactly like what it means:) This from my vague memory of German - as there is no possibility to keep up and practice it on this side of the pond! (You may remember, I am Dutch and lived one year in W- Berlin).
Many thanks for this beautiful post for All Seasons and have a terrific upcoming month, Jesh

Yes, I remember that you're Dutch and lived in Germany!

It's really not fair - I know that too - there I need a lot of "energy" to learn a language and how fast does it fade away when I don't have enough practice!
So I hope you enjoy reading the German text here. :-)

  12. British Columbia as lots of lakes, especially where we live along the southwest coast. Our Powell Lake is over 1000 feet deep in a glacial carved fjord. There's even ancient salt sea water at the bottom, trapped there 10,000 years ago at the end of the ice age. - Margy

  14. Beautiful photos of that area of Germany. That sign really is misleading in English and French. I lived in Braunschweig for about 6 years in the mid 1980's, but my German is now very rusty. What a pity you can forget a language so quickly if you don't practice it.

  19. Hello from Nature Notes....Thank you so much for adding the English as I have no German language at all, but my late Mother-in-law was from Germany... How beautiful your photos are and it seems that you in Europe was doing much better with the pandemic than we are in the US. We stay home or wear a mask, but a lot of people are not doing either sadly... Michelle

    1. Thank you, Michelle. I began to add the English when I noticed that g**gle translator turned some of the sentences to the opposite meaning! So I thought, maybe I'd try myself... :-)
The pandemic hit some of the European countries hard, for example, Italy and Spain - and there is still an increasing number of infections in Sweden. Here in Germany we still wear masks and "practice" social distancing. In the meantime, restaurants and hotels may open under strict hygiene requirements.
      Stay healthy!
